On Monday 17th. July 2006, Akira
tSurukame opened the Reconciliation
Exhibition in Galway. The
exhibition featured artists Leonie King, Heather King, Mathiew Phinn, and a
documentary of the 'Reconciliation' directed by Tom Flanagan Snr,
filmed and edited by ENSO
artists Kevin & Tom Flanagan.
The 'Reconciliation' happened in August 2004 when a fateful event occurred
after a series of coincidences led Akira tSurukame and his family to Oranmore Castle to meet the man who had
killed his father. Commander Bill torpoed his Japanese Uboat the I-166 on
July 17 1944. Akira opened the exhibition on the same date 62 years
later, accompanied by Commander Bill King and his family.
Project06 was a
Galway Artists Arts Initiative running simultaneous to Galway
Arts Festival '06.
